
Constitution
Article I
The name of this organization shall be Women In Science and Engineering of Middle Tennessee State University. The organization shall use the acronym WISE.
Article II
The purpose of the Women In Science and Engineering shall be:

To help women prepare for and become involved in science-related careers·
To assure women of their importance in all scientific and technical fields.
Article III
A. Membership shall be limited to currently enrolled MTSU students, faculty, and staff members.
B. Membership shall not be denied to any person because of age, race, sex, religion, handicap, sexual orientation, or national origin.
Article IV
A. Dues for membership in Women In Science and Engineering shall be set by the members at the initial meeting of WISE at the beginning of each academic year. The organization can decide to charge no dues.
B. Dues shall be collected by the Treasurer and placed in a checking fund designated by the Finance Committee.
C. The Treasurer shall keep the checkbook and report at each meeting on the balance and any disbursements.
D. Disbursements may be recommended by the President, Executive Committee members, or general membership, and shall be approved by the President.
E. Amounts in excess of $100.00 shall be approved by the Executive Committee.
F. Checks shall be signed by the Treasurer and one other member of the Executive Committee.
Article V
A. Officers of WISE and their duties include the following:

President:·
Chairs the Executive Committee;·
Prepares an annual calendar of meeting dates;·
Announces meetings;·
Prepares an agenda and presides over each meeting;·
Conducts such business as needed to facilitate the organization’s goals.·
Vice-president:·
Sits on Executive Committee;·
Chairs Program Committee;·
Assists the President and carries out the President’s duties whenever the President is unable to do so;·
Carries out other duties as designated by the President.·
Recording Secretary:·
Sits on Executive Committee, Program Committee, and Finance Committee;·
Records minutes for each meeting;·
Maintains minutes for the term of office and hands them over to successor.·
Corresponding Secretary:·
Maintains membership list;·
Conducts correspondence and any other written tasks as designated by the President, including corresponding with program presenters and writing thank-you letters.·
Treasurer:·
Chairs the Finance committee;·
Maintains the organization’s finances;·
Writes checks as authorized by President;·
Reports at each meeting on fund balance and disbursements;·
Makes recommendations to the organization on changes in dues.
B. Officers of WISE are voted on by the membership at the initial meeting of each academic year. Tenure as an officer shall be one academic year.
C. Officers who do not or are unable to fulfill their duties can be replaced by a vote of the membership.

A vote to replace an officer shall be called for by another officer and requires ratification by two-thirds of the membership present.·
The recall must be announced to the entire membership at least five business days prior to the meeting when the vote will take place.
D. Committees and their duties shall include the following:

Executive Committee: consists of all officers and the Faculty Advisor; chaired by President; meets at least once per semester;·
Sets annual goals for the organization;·
Evaluates organization’s function in meeting goals;·
Approves recommendations by Program and Finance Committees.·
Program Committee: composed of volunteers from the membership; chaired by the Vice-president;·
Recommends programs for the academic year;·
Develops annual calendar of programs;·
Communicates programs to President for announcement in the call for meetings;·
Makes arrangements for programs and speakers;·
Arranges publicity for programs and the organization in general.·
Finance Committee: composed of three non-officer members appointed by the President; chaired by Treasurer; meets prior to each general meeting·
Selects institution to handle checking account;·
Audits checking account and authorizes Treasurer’s report;·
Reviews need for and recommends changes in dues.·
Other committees may be appointed by the President on recommendation of membership or Executive Committee to undertake single projects.
Article VI
A. Meetings of the Women In Science and Engineering organization shall be held regularly. The membership shall vote on the dates and times of meetings at the initial meeting.
B. The calendar shall be ratified by two-thirds vote of members present.
C. Meetings will be conducted in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order.
Article VII
The Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members present.
A. All amendment proposals shall be submitted to the President in handwriting.
B. The President shall announce proposed amendments to all members of the organization at least five business days prior to the vote.
