World events and global politics are interesting, often dangerous, and
tremendously important. Things that happen in the world affect your life
people, jobs, and goods crisscross the globe, diseases and environmental
problems flow across borders, and war, repression, and terrorism are
chronic threats. The Boy Scouts of America understand that we are all
citizens of the world—we affect the world and the world affects us—and
we ought, therefore, to take a real interest in how the world works. This is
what the Citizenship in the World merit badge is all about.

Using the BSA Merit Badge booklet and this web site you will be able to
answer all of the questions required for Citizenship in the World. This merit
badge requires you to work through quite a bit of information, really too
much to take in all at one time. Therefore, I want you to meet with me three
times as you work on the merit badge—once after completing requirements
1+2, once after completing requirements 3+4, and once after completing
requirements 5 to 7.

These meetings will NOT be tests where you will be grilled and graded.
Rather, since this is one of the more academic oriented merit badges, the
idea is just to have a series of discussions to make sure you are on the right
track—there is evidence you are really looking through and reading the
materials, you understand the ideas, and we clear up any misconceptions.

In completing the worksheet:
    A) write full and complete responses
    B) use your own words (do not copy or cut and paste the words of others)

Any time you ever have any questions about the world issues as you are
working on the requirements, or if you want to set up a meeting, either catch
me at the Barn or e-mail me at carleton@mtsu.edu.
