    Commissioner Milton Hamilton, Jr., Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, opened the EXPO with a brief
ceremony to recognize Tennessee's Energy Star Buildings Partnership with EPA. 

    Keynote Speaker, Huston Eubank, Program Manager from the
Rocky Mountain Institute, spoke to attendees on "Tunneling Through the Cost Barrier."  He discussed design concepts, technical improvements, and management issues as the three pillars of energy efficiency. He recently joined RMI's Green Development Services as a senior consultant, has 30 years diverse experience as an architect with special interests in sustainability, project design, design for energy efficiency, and environmental responsibility, and served as the "Earth Smart Ambassador" for Enron/Portland General Electric where he promoted an innovative energy efficiency utility program for building owners and design teams. A graduate of Cornell University, he has worked for Gottfried Technology, Inc. as director of Building Futures Services, at Gensler as senior architect, is a certified construction specifier, and proprietor of his own firm. 

    The luncheon address "Energy Partnering, Where's the Trust?" was provided by Mike Fitts, FAIA, State Architect for the State of Tennessee. He focused on overcoming barriers and obstacles to successful partnering between federal, state, and local
governments and the private sector with the end result being energy savings. He holds degrees in engineering, architecture, and law and
is licensed in all three field in Tennessee. 

    Prior to the EXPO, the Department of Environment and Conservation, Division of Community Assistance, held a "Building Know-How, Energy Upgrades Technical Session" on May 3 & 4, 1999. .
