100 Series

Core Course 101 - Better Communications for Better Buildings/Anita Zimmerman, Interax Corp.

  • The ability to communicate effectively is at the core of every successful project.  This course will explore the nature and flow of communication among facility owners, designers, facility managers, and building occupants.  It will examine the impact of interaction on the performance of new and renovated facilities.  Through a discussion of different leadership and management styles, you will be asked to visualize yourself in the roles of mentor, coach, and team builder.  As the needs for these roles are reviewed, you will be able to develop an understanding of how to adjust your own style, improve communication, and deliver better buildings to the customer. (3 PDH)

Core Course 102 - Sustainable Design for New Facilities/

  • This course will highlight working with local architects and building owners to develop facilities that will serve as models for the future. Principles include site planning, landscape, daylighting, energy efficient building shell, solar systems, energy efficient lighting and electrical systems.  (1 PDH)

Core Course 103 - Understanding the O&M Practices and Preferences of Commercial End Users/Ken Black, E-Source

  • North American commercial enterprises spend over $100 billion each year on O&M of energy end-use equipment.  Where are these dollars going?  What opportunities are out there to lower these costs?  Who's doing what?  What works?  This presentation will explore these questions and provide an overview of the O&M practices currently in use by commercial customers across the U.S.  (1 PDH)

200 Series

Core Elective 201 - IAQ Assessments and Solutions/Stan Richardson, Serve-Pro

  • This course will outline an indoor air quality and bio-remediation protocol for facilities. HVAC inspections, remedial assessment and testing, and HVAC system cleaning options will be discussed. (1.5 PDH)

Core Elective 202 - Building Assessments and Audits/Larry Kaminsky, Geo-Marine

  • This course will discuss various types of energy assessments and audits for existing facilities. It will focus on the different applications of assessment/audits, relating the energy characteristics with the other physical needs of the building, and matching the assessment/audit applications with the owners needs, resources, and requirements. (1.5 PDH)

Core Elective 203 - Whiz Bang Technologies/Mark Murray, York International: Jim  Hungate, Expanets; Logan Canter, TN Lighting Sales; Al Herchenhahn, E. Sam Jones Inc.

  • This course will introduce the attendees to some of the latest technologies on the market today, including the York FlexSys underfloor air system, wireless technologies by Expanets, and fiber optic lighting techniques from E. Sam Jones, Inc., Light, Inc., and Tennessee Lighting Sales, Inc.  (1.5PDH)

Core Elective 204 - Financing Options for Energy Projects/Richard Zelinski, Rebuild America; David Clamage, Saulsbury Hill Financial Corp.

  • This course will provide options to organizations considering investments in energy efficiency projects. Learn definitions, descriptions and options for financing and implementing successful financial strategies. The complete spectrum of energy efficiency financing options, including energy saving performance contracts will be reviewed and discussed. Instructors for this session include experts from both the Federal Government and private sector financial institutions.

    A guidebook prepared by the U. S. Department of Energy titled "Financing Energy Efficiency in Buildings" will be provided to all attendees.  (1.5 PDH) 

300 Series

General Elective 301 -  K-12 Energy Projects, Learning from Experience/School Officials: Larry Schoff, Rebuild America; Mike Frey, Memphis City Schools; Dennis Hirsch, Memphis City Schools; Bob Spong, Williamson Count Schools; Harry Trent, Sullivan County Schools; Joe Mike Akard, Sullivan County Schools 

  • This course will address one of the top problems facing education today: aging facilities, deferred maintenance needs, and increased operating costs.  This panel of your peers throughout the State of Tennessee will share their experiences and successes in addressing these problems.  Districts have utilized existing budgets to fund much needed facility improvements.  This discussion will focus on the process of how schools have developed, introduced, obtained buy-in, and had successful energy savings projects.  Coupled with your peers, a Rebuild America representative will facilitate the discussion on gaining the best results in helping turn other's successes into your reality.  (1 PDH)

General Elective 302 - HVAC Test and Balance for Energy Projects/Walter McCauley, United Testing and Balancing

  • This course will provide the fundamental principals and techniques required to properly balance HVAC systems for both new construction and existing retro-commissioned systems.  (1 PDH)

General Elective 303 - Energy Outlook/ Rob Ellis, Woodward Marketing

  • This course will focus on the natural gas energy outlook, short-term and longer-term.  From deregulation to management factors, from supply and demand pricing factors to increased rig counts, many facets of the natural gas industry as they pertain to the energy professional will be discussed.  Additional talking points include price convergence of energy sources and the impact of the Bush Administration Energy Policy.  (1 PDH)

General Elective 304 - You Can’t Meter Savings/Mark Arney, Architectural Energy Corp.

  • This course will discuss the concept and application of measurement and verification (M&V) for retrofit and new construction projects. The course will be based on the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) and other related documents. An overview of M&V procedures will be presented, along with methods for and short term and long term data collection. The use of Architectural Energy Corporation's portable diagnostic equipment for performing M&V will be discussed. Various case studies using this system will be included.  (1 PDH)
