Leading a Workshop

Each year, the number of faculty attending workshops increases since we started giving them in 2005.  If this is your first time putting together a workshop for us, you may be interested in the following facts:

Over 300 faculty attended  our workshops in 2007-08 Over 30 disciplines are represented over a year's time.
Though dependent on time of day and year, the broadness of narrowness of a topic, etc., our faculty-led workshops typically average 25 people Showcases usually average 45 faculty.

There is no one discipline that defines our participants.

Managing Your Workshop--The Cycle

  1. Presentation invited by directors  Barbara Draude and Faye Johnson

  2. Download the presentation form so that we know how to support you and how to describe your workshop.

  3. Center publicizes your workshop on its web site, list serv, newsletter, flyers.

  4. If desired, the Center can make copies of your materials if received  a week before event.

  5. The Center will keep you informed of registrations.

Support for Your Workshop--The Center

All of the LTITC staff are experienced with  presentations and familiar with various computer programs for building them.  With reasonable notice, we can--

  1. Build a powerpoint presentation from your notes & instructions.

  2. Recommend and gather supporting visuals and handouts from our files, library, or academic web sites.

  3. Copy, collate, bind, set up.

  4. Create handouts and takeaways, secure special display materials and equipment.

Tips for a Great Workshop

We always poll workshop participants at the conclusion of a session. Based on average feedback on our workshops, you might want to keep these observations in mind when preparing your presentation.

  • Audiences like to do something--do an exercise or activity--or even just talk...a lot.

  • Participants will come from many different departments, so they appreciate when a presenter uses examples from across the disciplines.

  • Handouts help--we can put some together, supplement yours, etc.
