 Welcome to Middle Tennessee State University

Mission Statement

The Center will create a community of faculty who develop, improve and integrate creative and effective use of appropriate pedagogy and technologies to enhance student learning.

2007-2009 Goals and Objectives 

Goal:  Promote the Center as a primary resource for teaching excellence.

 Objectives:

  • Maintain a faculty advisory council with representatives from each college, full-time and adjunct faculty, department chairs and Deans.

  • Implement a promotion and marketing strategy designed to use a variety of methods to reach a majority of faculty.

  • Maintain an inventory of faculty development resources.

  • Assess the Center’s impact on learning and teaching via the creative and effective integration of appropriate pedagogies and technologies through a variety of assessment techniques.

Goal:  Develop, promote, and provide learning, teaching, and technology opportunities for faculty.

  Objectives:

  • Plan and implement annual “First Tuesday” seminar series that highlights effective pedagogies and technologies.

  • Plan and Implement a “Showcase” seminar series on innovative pedagogies and technologies that allows for collaboration with various campus offices and committees to promote faculty development.

  • Plan and implement a “Teaching Excellence” workshop series that provides practical opportunities for the application of learning, teaching and technology pedagogies.

  • Identify and support two faculty fellows per academic year.

  • Co-Host the annual ShareFair to highlight innovative pedagogical and technological activities.

  • Extend the Center’s reach into supporting development opportunities for graduate students.

  • Develop strategies to encourage greater numbers of faculty to use the Center as an informal conversation space for faculty engaged in learning, teaching and using technology dialogues.

Goal:  Foster a culture to promote collaboration, collegiality, and mentoring to enhance the scholarship and practice of teaching to impact learning.

 Objectives:

  • Review the Faculty Mentoring Program to insure its adaptation to continuing best practices and to determine its potential as a foundation for establishing a Faculty Learning Community.

  • Promote and encourage interdisciplinary activities in teaching and research.

  • Establish a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) program of research and research support.

  • Identify and support one SoTL faculty fellow per academic year.

  • Promote informal dialogues between faculty members on good teaching.

  • Support one graduate research assistant per academic year.
