Environmental Science and Technology is an interdisciplinary major offered in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences and administered by the Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Studies. The board based curriculum offers course work in the natural sciences, life sciences, mathematics, agriculture, technology, and the arts. Six concentrations in environmental areas-Energy Resource Management, Engineering Technology and Safety, Planning, Site Analysis, Waste Management, and Water Resources-allow students to pursue an area of interest. No minor is required but one is encouraged. Courses that are part of a student's major cannot be used in a minor. The requirements for a major in Environmental Science and Technology are listed below with 67 semester hours in the ES&T core, 30 hours in general studies outside of the math and science areas, and 20 to 29 hours in an identified specialty or concentration. Core requirements (67 hours) ABAS 3340, 3370 - 6 hours Employment Opportunities Typical employment opportunities exist in various levels of government agencies and as environmental consultants in manufacturing, construction, and agricultural industries in such areas, as air and water quality control, recycling, hazardous/solid waste management, and noise control. The Engineering Technology and Industrial Studies Department administers the inter- disciplinary program. Courses are offered by the School of Agribusiness and Agriscience and the Biology, Chemistry, Engineering Technology and Industrial Studies, and Geography and Geology, departments. |
