COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Awareness of the importance and simplicity of using renewable energy technologies for space heating.  Consideration of life-cycle costing in building economy analysis.  Convey a knowledge of solar position and its usefulness in building siting and design.  Weigh architecture and interior design in light of solar energy utilization.  Develop proficiency in using passive solar design tools.

TEXTBOOKS REQUIRED : The Passive Solar Energy Book  by Edward Mazria

(Unfortunately, this text is out of print.  Efforts to find a suitable substitute been unsuccessful.  As a interim measure several copies are on reserve in the library.   Students are encouraged to try to obtain a copy of the text from persons who have taken the course in the past.)

EVALUATION AND GRADING :      Quizzes                         20%

Final exam is comprehensive and optional and its grade will be used to replace the lowest test grade.                                         A=90%-100%; B=80-89%; C=70-79%; D=60-69%; F=>60% 

COMPUTER USAGE:

POLICY ON MAKEUP WORK:  
You are expected to attend class. Quizzes are given through out the semester and there is no make-up for any missed quiz.  Make-up tests are not allowed without either prior approval, a doctor’s certificate or the Dean’s approval.  

REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATE CREDIT:
An additional research paper will be required and assigned on an individual basis for those seeking graduate credit.

ATTENDANCE:
Class roll will be taken and attendance is expected for all class meetings.
