Student Organizations
It is the aim of the ET Department to properly prepare its graduates for various careers in the field of industrial management and design. One way ET accomplishes this is through the active involvement of the individual student in a nationally recognized professional organization. Such organizations prepare a student for the workforce of his or her choice by keeping them abreast of current trends in the related fields. Activities range from plant and site tours to interactive discussions and seminars led by a recognized professional in the field that the organization applies to. The organizations listed below are the campus recognized local chapters available to the ET student.

SME- The Society of Manufacturing Engineers- MTSU Student Chapter holds meetings monthly during Fall/Spring semesters. Professional speakers and plant tours highlight the varied activities. Meeting notices are posted on bulletin boards and hall monitors. Interested students contact Mr. Ken Sergeant.

ASME Int'l- The American Society of Mechanical Engineers- Involvement and affiliation with ASME has proved invaluable in making a smooth transition from the classroom to employment as mechanical and manufacturing engineering professionals. Interested students should contact Dr. Saeed Foroudastan.

AHBA- The American Home Builders Association provides a wide range of services to its members and is a powerful advocate for housing and the home building industry. AHBA keeps you up-to-date on the latest building trends, legislative developments, and construction technology. Interested students should contact Dr. David Hatfield.

ASSE- American Society of Safety Engineers student chapter promotes the advancement of the safety professional and safety education to foster the professional well being of its members. ASSE offers meetings with guest speakers from a wide range of occupations, field trips, and certifications in Occupational, Safety, and Health Standards. Interested students should contact Dr. Don Beard.

NAEP- National Association of Environmental Professionals is a multidisciplinary association dedicated to the advancement of the environmental profession in the United States and abroad. Interested students should contact Dr. Kathy Mathis.

ACI- American Concrete Institute Student Chapter at MTSU is involved in educational, professional, and community service activities aimed at providing growth for its members. Interested students should contact Mr. Austin Cheney.

EPT - Epsilon Pi Tau was founded at the Ohio State University in 1929. The organization is an international honorary for professions in technology. The purpose of the organization are to recognize the importance of skill development, promote professional and social proficiency, and reward research. All majors in the Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Studies are eligible. Interested students should contact Dr. David Hatfield.

Eta Tau Xi (HTX) is a professional technology fraternity for men and women in engineering, physics, mathematics, aerospace, and computer sciences. HTX was Founded in 2003.

Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) - The student chapter of SAE is also an organization primarily for ET students. SAE competes in national vehicle events and regularly visits the nearby Nissan and Saturn plants. Like ASME, SAE members attend national conferences, and receive all of the benefits and opportunities of a national organization at a reduced student rate. Faculty Advisor Dr. Saeed Foroudastan

Experimental Vehicles Program (EVP) - The EVP at MTSU is a joint venture sponsored by the local ASME and SAE chapters. This student organization is open to students from all majors and disciplines. EVP builds and races a variety of vehicles in competitions around the country and the world. These vehicle projects include the Solar Vehicle, Solar Boat, Formula SAE, Mini Baja, and the Moon Buggy projects.  EVP offers ET students an opportunity to apply their classroom skills to real world projects and challenges. The program builds team, leadership, and communication skills that are necessary in the industry. Faculty Advisor Dr. Saeed Foroudastan
