As of 1994 the faculty of Middle Tennessee
State University (MTSU) have received comprehensive support for the
use of instructional technology tools in their teaching practice. The
majority of the 700 plus faculty members have taken advantage of resources
and services such as technology-based classrooms; multimedia development
centers; training; and release time to develop technology-based materials.
Many of the 19,000 plus students have attended classes taught in
technology-based classrooms.
A study of MTSU faculty first done in 1998 and then repeated in 2000 assessed the effectiveness of instructional technology by measuring its impact on the depth and breadth of content covered, student performance, and good teaching practices that were widely acknowledged as catalysts for improved learning. A study of MTSU students' perspective on how the use of technology in the classroom has affected their learning was conducted in 1999 and repeated in 2001. These studies were revised and repeated in 2000 and 2001 to explore the evolution of Instructional technology at MTSU. |
