Common error messages and what they mean
- "Bad mnumber, that number is already in use. Please hit the back
button on your browser and try again"
- This error messages indicates that you are trying to create
a new account using an M number that has already been used to
create an account.
- The system will now allow the creation of two accounts with
the same M number.
- "Bad password match. Please hit the back button on your browser
and try again.
- While setting up your account, you are asked to type a
password for yourself, then retype the password.
- This error message means that the way you typed the password
the first time does not match the way you typed it the second
time.
- Try again, making sure that you type the password the same
way both times.
- "Bad mnumber, please include the 'M' as well as all leading
zeros ex:M00000001. Please hit the back button on your browser and
try again"
- This error indicates that the M number you typed when
trying to set up your account didn't match the format the system
expected.
- Be sure to capitalize the "M."
- Be sure not to use the letter "O" when typing your M number.
Anything in an M number that looks like "0" is a zero, not a
letter "O."
- Be sure to type all nine characters in your M number,
including the M.
- "Your account has not yet been confirmed. If you need to resend
your confirmation, please click here"
- This error indicates that you are trying to log into the
system but have not yet completed your registration by opening
the confirmation e-mail the system sent you and clicking on the
link inside the e-mail.
- Click the "resend your confirmation" link in the error
message to have the system send you a new confirmation e-mail.
- If the e-mail still doesn't show up in your e-mail account,
check your e-mail system's "spam" filter. The confirmation
e-mail could have ended up there.
- If you can't find the confirmation e-mail anywhere, it may
be that you mistyped your e-mail address when you set up your
account. Contact the project's supervisor with your correct
e-mail address.
- "(Whatever M number you typed) does not appear to be a valid M
number. Please click back in your browser to try again"
- You are trying to log into the system using an M number that
the system doesn't recognize.
- Most likely, you have mistyped your M number.
- Back up and try again, taking care to type the M number
correctly.
- "These credentials were not accepted. Please use the back button
on your browser to try again"
- The system does not recognize the M number and password
combination you are using to try to log into the system
- Chances are you have mistyped one or the other, or both.
- Back up and try again.
- You also have the option of resetting your password.
- If you choose to reset your password, the system will
generate a new password for you and send you an e-mail with
instructions.
- The e-mail will be sent to whatever e-mail address you
specified when you created your account.
