Excellence in Insurance Scholarship

This account was established in January, 2001, by  Dr. Kenneth W. Hollman.  Dr. Hollman was the first holder of the Martin Chair of Insurance.

The purpose of this scholarship is to attract highly qualified students who need financial assistance into the insurance program, to familiarize them with the theory of insurance and the language of the insurance contract, to emphasize to them the vital role of insurance in industry and business financial planning, and to prepare them for the agency licensing and professional designation exams. This scholarship is primarily based on need. Criteria to receive the scholarship are that the applicant:

  • Be a major or minor in insurance

  • Be enrolled in or have completed Fin. 3610, General Insurance

  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Pledge membership in the Gamma Iota Sigma Insurance Fraternity

  • Agree to accompany Dr. Hollman to the scholarship presentation

  • Be enrolled for at least six hours per semester

Scholarships are available in the amounts of $1,000 for insurance majors and $750 for insurance minors at the beginning of either the Fall and Spring semester, but not both. The scholarship is renewable annually if the indicated GPA is maintained and other requirements are met. Selection for the awards will be under the direction of Dr. Kenneth W. Hollman, Dr. Emily Zietz, and Dr. John T. Lee, with input from the donor as appropriate.
