Course Delivery:  The Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction with specialization in English as a Second Language is delivered entirely online via the D2L course management system.

Admission:  All prospective students must be admitted to the MTSU College of Graduate Studies and must meet all related requirements as outlined in the MTSU Graduate Catalog.

  • Graduate School admissions is required before enrolling in any classes.  You must apply to the MTSU College of Graduate Studies before attempting to enroll.  Be sure that your admissions packet is complete.

  • Department of Educational Leadership - Requirements for Education Specialist Degree:

    • Application for Admission
    • Application Fee
    • Official transcripts which reflect all coursework completed at each university or college attended (see Graduate Catalog for related requirements)
    • Three letters of reference
    • Three recommendations (Department of Educational Leadership Form)
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English (see Graduate Catalog for specific requirements)
    • Satisfactory score on the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) or the MAT (Miller Analogies Test).  NOTE:  A PRAXIS score or teaching license is not accepted for this program.
    • At least one semester prior to the anticipated date of registration/enrollment, all applicants seeking the Education Specialist degree must submit the admissions materials to the MTSU College of Graduate Studies.  These materials are outlined in detail on the College of Graduate Studies home page.

    • A candidate for the Specialist degree must hold a Master's degree.
       

    • The time limit for completing the degree is six (6) years and is counted from the date of matriculation.

     

  • Admission to the Education Specialist program follows admission to the Graduate School.  All admission materials will be sent from the Graduate School to the Department of Educational Leadership.  Candidates for the Education Specialist with the Specialization in Culture, Cognition, and the Learning Process will be officially admitted by the Graduate Admissions Committee.  The committee meets once each semester. 
     

  • You must be admitted to the Education Specialist program before you complete 12 semester hours.
     

  • All candidates must file an Advancement to Candidacy Form prior to completing 24 semester hours.
