The Department of Health and Human Performance
(HHP) offers students the
opportunity to prepare for professional careers as teachers of health and of physical education, directors in industry and
social agencies, as recreation and leisure service professionals in a wide range of settings, and as health professional
in schools, industry, and allied areas.
Undergraduate programs in the department lead to the Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Health Education, Athletic
Training, Recreation and Leisure Services, and Physical Education which also includes a concentration in Wellness and Exercise
Science. Persons majoring in Health Education may select from concentrations in Health Science and Technology, Health
Education and Lifetime Wellness, and Community and Public Health. Persons majoring in Recreation and Leisure Services may
choose from three concentrations--Outdoor Recreation, Recreation Administration, and Recreational Therapy.
Those interested in a non-teaching career in the field can select courses accordingly. Minors in Athletic Coaching,
Driver and Traffic Safety Education, Health, Health and Physical Education, Physical
Education, and Recreation are also available.
The Department of Health and Human Performance offers two Master of Science degrees: one with a major
in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation with concentrations in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Sport
Management and one with a major in Exercise Science and Health Promotion. All students in the Master of Science program
in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation must choose one of the four concentrations.
The department also offers the Ph.D. in Human Performance with specializations in four areas: Exercise Science, Health,
Recreation and Leisure Studies, and Physical Education.
