OBJECTIVE Our Objective At MTSU: we are dedicated to the notion that a master's program may be professionally useful while at the same time help students better understand the history, context and social influence of the profession they have chosen. Ours is the only master’s degree program in the study of media in the Middle Tennessee region. It is ideally suited to working professionals seeking a broader understanding of their jobs or traditional students seeking a path toward a doctoral program. It is not a program for those seeking their first position in the field. We offer a challenging course of classes designed to enrich understanding and develop advanced skills for the workplace or for doctoral study. Students take courses in theory and methodology as well as more applied professional courses. Students typically interact with professors in small, seminar-style classes that afford ample opportuity to apply ideas. At the end of their course of study, students may choose to write a research-based master’s thesis, develop a professional project connected more closely to their professional career, or take comprehensive exams.
