News From the Director

It may actually be getting warm now, so it appears that more outdoor activities will be occurring at Project Help.  We look forward to new goals and experiences for all three classrooms.

Last week Amy and I attended a conference at Montgomery Bell State Park to learn of new Early Intervention mandates.  It would appear that there are very few concrete pieces of information.  For that reason, we will plan to continue services as we have known them—at least through June and possibly for the next fiscal year.  I would still like to get written ideas, questions, and remarks in order to one day (maybe soon?!!) be able to take your input to those who adjust policies.

One large change is the plan to discontinue the van services.  We are one of the few Early Intervention programs still providing transportation.  We have the preliminary recommendations of the Advisory Board to stop this service and that will be finalized prior to ending the van routes.  With the cost of gasoline at all-time highs, as well as the ongoing concerns about safety, we will get those of you affected the final decision soon.  We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

As you are aware, Debbie Bauder will be leaving Project Help.  Her last day is May 18, and we hope each of you will take the opportunity to say good-bye as well as telling her what her work has meant to both you and your child.  Per Debbie’s request, we will not have a get-together or drop-in reception.  Debbie has been instrumental in designing and implementing a truly exemplary Early Intervention program; the community is blessed to have had her at Project Help.

The family picnic is scheduled for May 25 at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Fairview Center, 802 Fairview Blvd., the previous Belle Aire Baptist Church.  We will give you more specific information; please look for a note from your child’s teacher in order to know what to bring to share.  The Project Help staff will furnish the barbecue, buns, drinks, and condiments as well as paper products.
