Breath Sounds
The
correct sequence of auscultation of the posterior chest is shown in the picture
below. The sequence is from the apex to the base of the lungs from one
side to the other including the lateral areas of the lungs.
The lung sound normally heard over the peripheral lung fields is the vesicular lung
sound. It has a low-pitched, soft intensity sound with a longer inspiration than expiration (I>E). Click on the number to listen to the

field.
