Normal Breath Sounds

The correct sequence of auscultation of the anterior chest is shown in the picture below.  The sequence is from the apex to the base of the lungs moving from side to side.

Click on the number to listen to the breath sound that is normally heard in this location on the body.  This breath sound is called the vesicular breath sound.  The vesicular breath sound is a low-pitched, soft intensity sound which has a longer inspiration than expiration (I>E).
