Interests, activities, and hobbies:

Sports teams

Tennessee Titans
As a Tennessee Titans fan, I watch their games on TV, tape posters and news articles to my office wall, and proudly drive around with a Titans bumper sticker on my car.

Nashville Sounds          I love baseball and the Nashville Sounds, and after watching a few foul balls zoom close to my head last summer, I will sit behind the net next season!

Blue Raiders       The Blue Raiders and Lady Raiders of MTSU are great, whether it's baseball, basketball, football, track, women's soccer, softball, or any other sport.  In May 2003, the baseball team won the Sunbelt Conference Baseball Tournament championship.  The football team continues to win the conference championships, and in 2006, played in a bowl game.

I love to travel, see new sights, take photos, buy refrigerator magnets and stuff, and experience new things. Some of my favorite destinations are Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Oklahoma City National Memorial, Ft. Worth Zoo and the Stockyards, St. Louis Science Center and the Gateway Arch, The Alamo and Riverwalk, Mount Mitchell State Park, Chimney Rock Park, Mammoth Cave, U. S. Space & Rocket Center, Lookout Mountain, Tybee Island Lighthouse, Ft. Pulaski, Hunting Island State Park & Lighthouse, Ft. Moultrie, and the National Museum of Naval Aviation.

Volunteer activities
I have been a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), trained to serve children who are before the Juvenile Court as a result of parental abuse or neglect.  As a CASA volunteer, I interviewed adults and children involved in a child's case and prepared  reports for the court focusing attention to the child's right to a safe, nurturing, and permanent home.  My husband and I have also served as foster parents, and we were active in scouting and church youth groups while our children were members.  I also have served on the board of VSA Arts of Tennessee, helping to bring programs in music, dance, drama, creative writing, and the visual arts to children and adults with disabilities.

Just keep moving
I met my husband on a hike in the Smoky Mountains, and we've enjoyed hikes and nature trails for almost three decades.  We also lift weights at the SportsCom, where our children were members of the city swim team MIST and played on soccer and basketball teams.  Our daughter lettered in swimming when she was in high school, and our son was a member of his high school in-line hockey team.

Gardening
In backyard pots and gardens, I grow columbine, Texas Bluebonnet, dwarf delphinium, daylilies, irises, Black-eyed Susan, salvia, astilbes, dianthus, one thornless pink rose bush, and loads of petunias and snapdragons.  In a vegetable garden, we grow tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, okra, snow peas, and blackberries.  I am attempting to grow blueberries and figs, so far without much success.

Backyard bird-watching
We feed the finches, sparrows, red-winged blackbirds, and cardinals in the winter and hummingbirds in the summer.  A garden bird-bath attracts robins, mockingbirds, mourning doves, and others.  A potted blueberry bush attracts a mockingbird, who leaves no blueberries for the rest of us.

"Still like that old time rock & roll"
Favorite musicians are Bob Seager, Jim Croce, Paul Simon, Marc Cohen, Bette Midler, Stevie Nicks, Jimmy Buffett, The Drifters, The Temptations, The Eagles, The Beatles, The Who, The Byrds, The 4 Seasons, The Beach Boys, The Cyrkle, Chicago, The Doobie Brothers, The Lovin' Spoonful, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pure Prairie League, and many others.  I also listen to Alison Krauss, The Wrights, Trisha Yearwood, Patty Loveless, Martina McBride, Shania Twain, Dan Tyminski, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Gillian Welch, and Dolly Parton.

Reading

Favorite authors are Susan Isaacs, Kaye Gibbons, Patricia Cornwell, John Grisham, Scott Turow, Dana Stabenow, Ken Follett, Larry Watson, Sue Grafton, Carl Hiaasen, Phillip Margolin, John Sandford, Harlan Coben, Agatha Christie, Edith Wharton, Jane Austen, Mary Stewart, Harold Kushner, Richard Carlson, Malcolm Gladwell, and Gail Sheehy.
