Example Problem:

Assume that during a three-hour period spent outside, a person recorded the temperature and their water consumption.  The experiment was conducted on seven randomly selected days during the summer.

Data:

Temperature (F) Water Consumption (oz)
99

48

85 27
97 48
75 16
92 32
85 25
83 20

Calculate the average temperature and average water consumption for the data recorded above.

Procedure (Temperature):
Add the temperatures listed in the data set.  Divide that total by the number of days the temperature was recorded.
