Using Minitab

This page includes Step-by-Step instructions to use Minitab to graph a matrix plot for the Water/Temperature/Mowing Time example.

Example: Assume that during a three-hour period spent outside, a person recorded the outside temperature, the time spent mowing the grass, and their water consumption.

Use Minitab to graph the matrix plot if the amount of water consumed is dependent on the temperature and the time spent mowing the grass. Use the data given below.

Preliminaries: Entering the data.

Enter the temperature data in column 1, time mowing in column 2 and water consumption in column 3. Put the category names in the title row.

NOTE: Minitab can hold up to 20 variables for the multiple correlation matrices and plots.

Procedures for Plot:

Select Graph > Matrix Plot
Select temperature, time mowing, and water consumption for your graph variables.
Click OK.
Save the data. Select FILE > SAVE AS. Call the data set Minitabmultidata.

Procedures for Matrix:

Select Stat > Basic Statistics > Correlation
Select temperature, time mowing, and water consumption for your correlation variables.
Check the box to display p-values.
Click OK.
