This page includes Step-by-Step instructions to use Minitab to calculate the Standardized Residuals (deleted t residuals) and Hi leverages values for the Water/Temperature/Mowing Time example.  

Example: Assume that during a three-hour period spent outside, a person recorded the outside temperature, the time they spent mowing the grass, and their water consumption.  

Use Minitab to find the Standardized Residuals, and the Hi leverage values if the amount of water consumed is dependent on the temperature and the time they spent mowing the grass.  Use the data given below.

Preliminaries: Entering the data. 

• Enter the Temperature data in column,1, Time Mowing in column 2, and Water Consumption in column 3.  Put the category names in the title row.

  Procedure:   

1.   Select Stats>Regression>Regression

2.   For Response type in 'Water Consumption' and for Predictors
      type 'Time Mowing' 'Temperature'

3.  Select the Storage button

• Check the boxes next to Deleted t residuals and Hi(leverages)  
• Select OK 
• Select OK again
• Save the project. Select File>Save Project As and name the project Diagnostics.
