Stepwise Regression is an extension of simple regression and multiple regression.  A new regression is ran for each new variable that is considered to be included in the model in order to see if the variable is beneficial to the model and how beneficial it is.

Since stepwise regression requires many calculations  it is  difficult to do by hand.  This process also takes a very long time using excel, since Excel does not have a pre-programmed function for Stepwise Regression.  Minitab does this process automatically.  This tutorial only shows how to use stepwise regression in minitab.
