Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology

The International Conference on College Teaching and Learning recognizes and honors outstanding faculty who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, learning, and technology at its annual conference in Florida. This conference emphasizes the use of innovative strategies, such as interactive and cooperative learning, combined with the use of technology to support higher education learning. Award recipients will also be asked to submit a paper for presentation at the conference describing their work dealing with successful practices and research to improve higher education learning; especially those that combine innovative learning strategies, such as constructivist, immersive and cooperative learning, as well as learning communities, with uses of the Web and advanced technologies. Selected faculty from institutions across the country will attend the conference and receive the "Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology" in a special ceremony. The 2008 MTSU award and conference trip, will be sponsored by the College of Mass Communication.  Each year nominations are accepted for full-time faculty members for the annual award and conference trip.  Any full-time MTSU faculty member or department chair may submit a nomination. Members of the LT&ITC's Advisory Board will consider nominations and choose the award recipient. The College will pay the costs associated with traveling to the conference and receiving the award. Please note that this faculty award is different from the "Outstanding Achievement in Instructional Technology" award sponsored by the MTSU Foundation. The same faculty member may be nominated for both awards.  If you would like to nominate one of your colleagues for the 2007/2008 Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology, please write a brief letter of nomination, sign the letter, and ask the nominee's department chair to also sign the letter.  The deadline for submitting nominations and supporting materials is THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2007. More than one faculty member from the same department may be nominated. Then, have your nominee submit your letter of nomination, a description of his or her work (up to 3 pages of text plus supplementary material, if any), and a 2-page resume (including instructional technology accomplishments). The description the award and the application procedures are included with this memo. Application materials should be sent to MTSU Box 226.

Please check with nominees in advance to be sure they are available to attend the conference, April 14-18, 2008.  Also, make sure nominees understand that if they receive the award they will be expected to submit a proposal to present a paper at the conference. That proposal submission date (to the International Conference on College Teaching and Learning) is November 30, 2007.
