No matter where you are....at home, work or play....
YOU ARE IN A WATERSHED.

A watershed is any surface area of land that drains into a water body (creek/stream, river, lake etc).  All land eventually drains to a water body. That is why it is so important to protect all water resources.

YOU can help be a
solution to water pollution!

The WaterWorks! program is dedicated to educating Tennessee's citizens about the importance of our local water quality and the vital role water plays in all life. We believe improved water quality is tied to citizens taking an active role in protecting our valuable water resources through:

  • education & understanding of water topics and watershed issues
  • information & knowledge of available water resources including monitoring and reports
  • participation in state & local events as well as ways to make a difference at home.

This site is structured to raise public awareness & to serve all citizens:

  • citizens & families (adults & youth)
  • teachers (formal & informal educators)
  • farmers
  • builders & developers
  • business owners
  • municipalities & storm water managers

Visit our interactive state map for a variety of
county & watershed information.

Ever wonder...

Why should I care
about water quality?

What do those watershed signs
mean?

what pollutants can affect the source of my drinking water?

where do I get my drinking water?

what can I do to make
a difference?
