Department, Middle Tennessee State University. Primary duties include departmental
administration, teaching construction materials and construction administration courses, cooperative education coordination,
accreditation, and curriculum development. Research interests include in situ resource utilization for planetary exploration and development,
educational program development, and energy efficiency.
- 1996 - 2001: Associate Professor, Eastern Kentucky University - Richmond, Kentucky - Construction Management Program, Department of Technology. Primary duties include teaching introduction to construction, construction materials and methods, and student advising. Research interests included lunar excavation methods, range estimating construction costs, agricultural fiber uses for residential construction, and automation. Other interests included graduate curriculum development.
- 1991 - 1996: Assistant Professor and Director
of the Construction Automation and Lunar Soil Simulant Laboratories in the
Constructed Facilities Division of the Department of Civil Engineering,
Texas A&M University - College Station, Texas - Primary duties included teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in project management, construction engineering, construction equipment and methods, productivity improvement, engineering economics, estimating construction costs, construction operations simulation, construction automation, project development, and project risk management. Research interests include construction in space (especially lunar excavation methods and lunar soil simulants), construction automation and robotics, and electronic data integration and management for construction. Administrative activities included budgeting, personnel recruitment and supervision for research projects, and redesign of the construction engineering and management curriculum.
- 1988 - 1990: Graduate
Student Researchers Program, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Fellowship Grant, University of Texas at Austin, Austin, Texas. Primary duties included research for a dissertation titled "Lunar Base Construction." Accomplishments included major contribution to a construction operations study sponsored by NASA in conjunction with the Army Corps of Engineers' Construction Engineering Research Laboratory, significant contribution to the Construction Operations portion of the FY 89 Annual Report by the Office of Exploration at Johnson Space Center, participation in the Planetary Surface Systems Planning Team at Johnson Space Center in the areas of operations analysis and construction for the 1989 "Ninety-Day Study."
- 1987 - 1988: Graduate Research Fellow, Large Scale Programs Institute - Austin, Texas - Primary duties included mathematical modeling, computer programming, and lunar base construction research. Accomplishments included primary responsibility for the construction portion of a systems integration tool called the Lunar Base Model, significant contribution to a NASA-sponsored study titled "Lunar Surface Construction and Assembly Equipment" by Eagle Engineering of Houston.
- 1978 - 1987: Project Engineer, Subcontracts Manager, Project
Manager, and Sales Manager, Cives Steel Company - Winchester, Virginia and Thomasville, Georgia - Primary responsibilities included engineering design and coordination, subcontracts award and management, overall project management including erection, project planning, estimating, proposal preparation, and marketing for multi-million dollar contracts. Administrative duties included planning, budgeting, scheduling, and conflict resolution.
- 1969 - 1973: Aircraft Radio Repairman, The United States Air Force - various domestic and foreign assignments - Primary duties included both flight-line and in-shop analysis and repair of vacuum-tube and solid-state systems circuitry.
