XI Alpha Receives

Chapter Key Award

 

Mrs. Jean Hastings and Dr. Lynn Parsons accepted this well deserved honor for the chapter at the 2001 STTI biennial convention.

 The MTSU, School of Nursing, Xi Alpha Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International received its second key award this past November at the biennial convention. The chapter must fulfill several critical activities as well as foster collaboration of research and mentorship of new inductees.  It is through the efforts of dedicated members like you that this award was possible.   The chapter has a lot to be proud of.

LOOKING AHEAD
to 2002

We always look forward to new and exciting things with the coming of a new year.  It is time to set our sights toward three critical events for the chapter.

 Ø     Election of New Officers

 Ø     Induction

 Ø     Research and Scholarly Presentations

Make sure to mark your calendars and plan to attend these important meetings and events.  If you are interested in becoming an officer or presenting at the sharing day for research and scholarly activities contact Mrs. Judy Campbell (898-5729, off # 230, CKNB).

 Got an idea for a research project and
need some startup funds? 

Look to the Chapter for Help!!!

 Xi Alpha has a Research Award to assist members get their foot in the research door. 

Research Award Criteria

A research award cosponsored by the NHC Chair of Excellence at Middle Tennessee State University is available for members. 

The purpose of the research award is to offer a small sum (up to $300) for a meritorious research project conducted by a chapter member (s).  It is expected that this award will provide funds for piloting a large project or startup costs for a smaller project.

Selection criteria:

  1. Primary investigator must hold active membership in Xi Alpha Chapter.
  2. Submission of a brief research proposal – including budget – for a project on a health related topic.
  3. Likelihood of completion of project.

The deadline for submission is

Monday, March 11, 2002.

Xi Alpha Chapter News!!

 MTSU School of Nursing, Xi Alpha Chapter is proud to announce the selection of two members as new Distinguished Lecturers for Sigma Theta Tau International

 Ø     Dr. Linda Covington – topic specialty -- Multiculturalism

Ø     Dr. Karen Ward – topic specialty -- Mental Health

 Congratulations to them on such a prestigious honor!!  


 The Xi Alpha Chapter cosponsors an

American Red Cross Blood drive following the September 11th disaster.

 It was a HUGE success!!  Close to 300 people came to donate blood, which exceeded AHA capacity and expectations.  Several activities were held during this event.

·      The Xi Alpha Chapter Board of Directors collected money for the September 11th Relief Fund sponsored by STTI at this event.  They also distributed red, white and blue ribbons for individuals participating in the event.

·     The MTSU, School of Nursing, Student Nurses Association collected money for the disaster fund and educated the public on blood donation and history of the American Red Cross organization.

·     The School of Nursing faculty provided baked goods and drinks for those donating blood.
