Field Experiences : The practica require a
permission of department (POD).
Before the pod will be placed, the
practicum application
must be received by Ms. Boudreau Fax 615-904-8070 or mail to POB 91 MTSU M'boro

How, you ask, do i work when i am working????
Most students use their fall or spring breaks to work at a school with a
different academic schedule.
That usually completes the requirement for a week worked. Other days are worked
when you can. You may work up to two weeks in advance of a semester OR you can
take an Incomplete and work after the semester ends. (Note: you cannot
graduate with an Incomplete on your transcript. Also, Incompletes are turned
into an F at the end of the next semester. It is totally your responsibility to
turn in the work that is needed; the instructors will not contact you or ask for
the work.)
Summers can be used if you can find a school that has the librarian of record
working.
If you are working slightly in advance of the semester of enrollment, the
complete application packet must be in the hands of the instructor. Only then
will the POD be granted. You cannot step foot in the school without the
completed packet being on file at MTSU!
Students set up the practica -- that way you can be close to home.
So make the first contact with the librarian and explain your need. Show him/her
the packet for sponsoring librarian. Submit your application to KEB.
If you work as a teacher, do not ask to work in your current school. It is not
allowed.
You should open the two packets below and read them carefully. Questions to Mrs.
Sanders or KEB. sgsander@mtsu.edu or
kpatten@mtsu.edu
LS 6180 and 6190 are online classes! You must use the D2L website for the
course and complete the requirements on that website according to the calendar
due dates.
The packet below is NOT a complete list of requirements for these field
experiences.
For students who hold current Tennessee certification as teachers:
-
The State requires a 200 clock hour practica experience.
-
MTSU breaks
this into two 100 clock hour experiences.
-
This is a PreK-12 certification,
so each practica provides an experience with a different grade level.
- Open and read the packet to see the restrictions, activities, and
requirements.
