MTSU Distinguished Research Award, 2007 - 2008 Dr. Abdul M. Khaliq, professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, received Ph.D. in mathematics from Brunel University, England, and has had held postdoctoral positions at Florida State University and the University of Maryland-College Park. Before joining MTSU in 2005, Dr. Khaliq held positions at the University of California-Los Angeles, Western Illinois University, and the University of Wisconsin. He has a distinguished record of internationally recognized research in numerical analysis and scientific computing specializing in the development of stable and efficient numerical methods for large-scale systems of partial differential equations (PDEs) with applications to mathematical finance and mathematical biology. Dr. Khaliq has published more than 50 research articles in leading refereed journals in mathematics and interdisciplinary fields, and his research is frequently cited in books, journals, and Ph.D. theses. He has been an invited presenter and organizer of mini-symposiums at national and international conferences. Last year, he organized four mini-symposiums at the Sixth International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Khaliq serves on the editorial boards of internationally recognized journals including the International Journal of Computer Mathematics, the Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics, and the journal, Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations, among others. He has been the guest editor of special journal issues on financial derivatives, numerical PDE methods in finance, and splitting methods for differential equations. His future research plans include stochastic PDEs, multi-scale modeling and simulation in mathematical biology and mathematical finance. |
