27 June:
During this day the Federals simply worked to complete their flanking
operation. The lead elements of Thomas’ corps reached Manchester
by early morning. The rest of the unit, after pushing the
remaining Confederates back through Fairfield, gained the town by day’s
end. Crittenden, for his part, finally got Palmer’s wagon train up
through Gillie’s Gap and sent it on towards Manchester. The other
division, under Wood, made it up through the gap quickly (he took a much
smaller wagon train). McCook’s corps, for its part, made it
through Hoover’s Gap, Sheridan’s division making it nearly to
Manchester. Finally, Granger’s reserves pushed up to Guy’s Gap,
while Union cavalry pursued Wheeler’s Confederate horse through
Shelbyville.
Bragg
starts moving his entire command to Tullahoma. By evening of the
27th, Stewart’s division of Hardee’s corps had arrived there.
The other divisions were on their way.
